“M” is for “Makes Me Wet”

BMW M3 Logo“M,” as in a BMW M3. I’ve always loved the look of BMWs. Especially the 3-series and the M3.

What does this have to do with anything? Well, I want one. Really bad. To the point I’ve been pricing them out and shopping around for one. Not a new one, though. Unfortunately, there’s no way in hell I’d be able to afford a new one.
What do I like about them? Excellent question! I feel that BMW exudes class. If you want a luxurious car that’s comfortable and classy, I don’t think you could do much better. Sure, Jaguar is probably regarded as just as, if not more, luxurious, but I feel like a Jaguar has too much of an “old rich woman” feel to it. That may be because I’ve only ever seen old rich women drive them, or because only old rich women do drive them. I know my great aunt, who owns a publishing company and drives a Jaguar, meets all three of those criteria.

If you like the 3-series so much, why not just get a 3-series? Why an M3? Actually, I was looking for a 3-series at first. There are a couple of my co-workers who drive 3-series BMWs, and they LOVE them. I know I would have enough fun in a 3-series, I don’t need all the extra performance from the M3. So, why then? It actually comes down to making a more sound investment. I’ll be paying quite a bit more from an M3 then I would for a 3-series, but the M3 holds it’s value a LOT better. For example, I checked the original MSRP and current retail price on Kelly’s Blue Book (I wouldn’t recommend using this for actual pricing, fyi) for a 2003 325Ci and for a 2003 M3 Coupe. I used base features on both, and used 55,000 miles on KBB. The 325i dropped in price by 22%, while the M3 only dropped by 19%. I looked on ebay, trying to keep millage and features close. I got a 34% drop for the 325i, and 32% drop for the M3 from original msrp. So, I may pay a little bit more for the M3, but I’ll loose less money when I sell it then I would with a 3-Series.

What does it look like? Here’s some photos. I don’t know what year any of these pictures are from, the site I stole them from was in German.

By the way, “M” actually stands for Motorsport.
