I received my first response to my open Net Neutrality letter. Things are looking good.

Dear [Ricky]:

I appreciate your taking the time to contact me about net neutrality. I understand your concerns, and I look forward to continuing the communication between you and me.

Keeping our internet open to all Americans is something that I strongly believe in. When the internet was turned over to the private sector, it was the intention of the government to avoid regulation as much as possible. The internet has become an open venue to express your views, learn, and communicate freely.

I believe that Congress does not need legislation that would further expand federal controls over the internet by increasing network regulation. That is why I opposed the Markey Amendment when it was considered by the House of Representatives during the debate on H.R. 5252. As written, H.R. 5252 guarantees internet customers the ability to access any content or website. This bill gives the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) clear authority to address complaints quickly on a case-by-case basis, as well as the ability to impose strict fines, up to $750,000, should discrimination occur.

Thank you again for contacting my office. As your representative in Washington, I believe that it is important that we keep an open dialogue. Please remember that my door is always open.

Sincerely,

F. Allen Boyd, Jr.
Member of Congress
