FW: PLEEEEEEEEASE REEEEEAD! IT WAS ON GOOD MORNINGAMERICATODAYSHOW

Here’s another very sweet repackaging of the old “Email tracking giveaway” chain letter. What a crock.

Subject: FW: PLEEEEEEEEASE REEEEEAD! IT WAS ON GOOD MORNINGAMERICATODAYSHOW

Read carefully…

THIS TOOK TWO PAGES OF THE TUESDAY USA TODAY - IT IS FOR REAL

To all of my friends, I do not usually forward messages, But this is from my friend Pearlas Sandborn and she really is an attorney.

If she says that this will work - It will work. After all, what have you got to lose?

SORRY EVERYBODY.. JUST HAD TO TAKE THE CHANCE!!! I’m an attorney, And I know the law. This thing is for real. Rest assured AOL and Intel will follow through with their promises for fear of facing a multimillion-dollar class action suit similar to the one filed by PepsiCo against General Electric not too long ago.

Dear Friends: Please do not take this for a junk letter. Bill Gates sharing his fortune. If you ignore this, You will repent later.

Microsoft and AOL are now the largest Internet companies and in an effort to make sure that Internet Explorer remains the most widely used program, Microsoft and AOL are running an e-mail beta test.

When you forward this e-mail to friends, Microsoft can and will track it (If you are a Microsoft Windows user) for a two week time period.

For every person that you forward this e-mail to, Microsoft will pay you $245.00 For every person that you sent it to that forwards it on, Microsoft will pay you $243.00 and for every third person that receives it, You will be paid $241.00. Within two weeks, Microsoft will contact you for your address and then send you a check.

Regards. Charles S Bailey General Manager Field Operations 1-800-842-2332 Ext. 1085 or 904-1085 or RNX 292-1085

Thought this was a scam myself, But two weeks after receiving this e-mail and forwarding it on. Microsoft contacted me for my address and within days, I received a check for $24, 800.00. You need to respond before the beta testing is over. If anyone can afford this, Bill gates is the man.

It’s all marketing expense to him. Please forward this to as many people as possible. You are bound to get at least $10, 000.00 We’re not going to help them out with their e-mail beta test without getting a little something for our time. My brother’s girlfriend got in on this a few months ago. When I went to visit him for the Baylor/UT game, she showed me her check. It was for the sum of $4,324.44 and was stamped ‘Paid In Full’.

First of all, tracking who gets forwarded an email that I send out is impossible UNLESS I’m included in the To: address each time it’s forwarded. Email is NOT a centralized system, so inherently can’t handle functionality like this. Not to mention that this kind of ability would destroy what little privacy anyone has in email. Think about it.

Secondly, Bill Gates is a nice guy. He started the Gates Foundation with $126 million of his own money. It now gives away BILLIONS of dollars each year in charity. He and his wife are very active in the foundation. He is a great humanitarian, but giving away money just because you were smart enough to click the ‘forward’ button (You did forward it, didn’t you?!) … you really think so?

Thirdly, AOL and Intel merging? Why would they? First of all, AOL is not actually AOL. It’s AOL a Time Warner company. Time Warner … One of the largest broadcasting and media companies in the world. The only way AOL would merge with anyone is if it was nearing bankruptcy, which really may not be too far from the truth, but Intel would surely not merge/buyout AOL. There’s no gain for them. They’re not in the internet business, they make processors (and are quite good at it).

Finally, all the contact info is bogus. Try it out. 800-842-2332 is a region-restricted number, not likely to be a corporate 800 number, but probably used internally for some organization to allow employees to phone in to a central number for free.)

773-588-7115 rang, but no answer. 773-588-7121 stated as a fax machine IS a fax machine, which may be the only true part of the whole email. They’re both Chicago area numbers and, after a bit of searching, I’ve come to believe they belong to the East-West Trading Company, a small, Asian-owned import company, which looks to be a head shop.

If you’re one of the (apparent) many who have continued to flood the internet with this email and further wreak havoc on unsuspecting email servers, not to mention publicly list phone numbers that seemingly belong to small Asian import companies, I think you should do what is always right in this situation, send a follow-up informing all of your friends, who trust you to deliver the truth, of your wrong doing. Let them know that you’ve been had. Tell them that they are in jeopardy of falling victim themselves.

Friends don’t let friends chain mail.
